It is important that you understand the predatory nature of money lenders. Understand their motives and most of all, understand their methods of doing business. It is simply survival of the fittest. If you are not fit you will become a victim.

A financial institution's goal is to make as much profit as possible on each and every business transaction. Your goals and theirs are completely different. You must take personal control of your financial destiny and not depend on these entities to even remotely have your best interests at heart. You absolutely have to actively seek every avenue, strategy and opportunity that can help you even the playing field which is heavily tilted in their favor. Someone is always in charge ... if not you, then it is the lenders.

My 10 rules for achieving successful results

1. Managing debt: Look first at what causes you the greatest loss of money (cost of borrowing), and do not immediately focus on interest rates.

2. If you are able to decrease your borrowing costs, apply the savings to the loan principal.

3. When seeking to borrow, do not ask a lender what you should do. Find out instead what choices are available and make your decisions based on your total out-of-pocket cost.

4. Define and set your financial goals, then create a plan to achieve them.

5. Change and improve your plan as new information and opportunities appear or become available.

6. If your plan is not working, throw it away and create a new one.

7. Be aware that you cannot do the same things that others are doing and expect your outcome to be any different.

8. When faced with a problem, change your way of thinking. You cannot get out of a situation using the same method of thinking that got you into the problem in the first place.

9. Seek expert advice, but make your own decisions.

10.Trust yourself! Invest in yourself! Most importantly, think for yourself! Remember, your greatest asset can be seen in any mirror!

There are, in my opinion, effective rules that will provide guidance to anyone seeking financial independence.

It is my sincerest wish that you find some or all of these rules useful. Having developed them over the years, my experience has shown them to be foolproof. I personally believe that we all are 'the masters of our fate: the captains of our soul'*.
